Living Sustainably
Our planners, architects and engineers have embraced sustainable design, supporting the mission of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). We seek to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.
As a member of the USGBC, Clark Patterson Lee is committed to this mission by providing an approach to design that truly integrates all aspects of design. The concept is simple – since one design decision will most often affect other aspects of the design, the architects, engineers and owner need to work interactively to develop sustainable strategies. This process begins at the earliest stage of design - from the development of a program and the evaluation of the site – to the selection of room finishes – to the occupancy and operations of the facility. This integrative design approach has been fundamental to Clark Patterson Lee’s philosophy for more than 30 years.
Sustainable design – and the specific applications such as the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines - have provided a “lens” to focus our design efforts to establish clear criteria for decision-making in all aspects of design. This approach guides us in articulating priorities and strategies in a participatory process with our clients to develop projects that minimize environmental impacts and maximize human well-being.
